When I was growing up my father worked
for a pipeline. We moved often during the 1950s, We
moved from Ohio to Mississippi during a time when Blacks went to one
school and Whites went to another. It was really confusing to
me why I shouldn't be allowed to speak to another child what was a
different color to me. Just couldn't understand the difference
and still can't. While in Brandon, Mississippi couldn't
understand why anyone would eat grits either. It was a new
food for me. Refused to eat grits 50 years ago but now grits with
cheese and chiles makes a tasty dish.
